Illinois and the Anti-Chief Illiniwek Cabal
Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner announced that he will not seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
Warner said he wanted to be able to put his family ahead of his political career, which means I won’t be able to put this bumper sticker on my car and convince others that I’m making a run to be the first female half-Apache, half-white Jew with UK citizenship in the White House…

Thanks for robbing me, Mark! Jerk.

UPDATE: I had a serious blonde moment afternoon and neglected to mention that today’s (yesterday’s, rather) smart ass comments on various happenings in sport can be found on SportsbyBrooks. A couple will look familiar but there are some other good nuggets to be found, including:
MAKE BELIEVE IT’S STILL FRIDAY THE 13TH UPDATE, PART II: Check out The Wade Blogs’ “Triskaidekaphobia: Top 13 Players Who Wore No. 13.”

haha You’re such a goofball
lol I woulda contributed $5 and a Quiznos coupon to your campaign effort!
Owning Arodsucks.com would be pretty cool but I don’t get what kind of tool would actually pay $611.99 for it. How can you hate the guy THAT much?
You’re an Indian Flash, how do you feel about the mascots and stuff?
My feelings are fairly mixed.
It’s understandable to me that some nations disagree with their culture, which is all they really have left, being used as some university mascot. “How dare X University do such a thing? Don’t we have anything to call our own?” But when the mascot serves as a symbol for the characteristics that a group would like to define their collective identity, I can’t find fault with that. The Seminoles, the Fighting Illini, etc, those symbols are paying homage to a great race of people that embody courage, bravery, and honor. So long as a team/school represents in that same fashion, far be it from me to stop them or become offended by it.
Naturally, I take issue with names like Redskins and Savages, the Tomahawk Chop in Atlanta, and caricactures like Chief Wahoo (a complicated personal issue that I discussed in a previous post). But there is a way to honor nations (see Florida State) and there is a way to make an entire race of people look like drunken, red-skinned, savage fools. And as long as a mascot represents the spirit of a people rather than some racist stereotype, I can support it.
