I’m Off to Stade de France

Today’s the day.. In just a few hours begins the match of a lifetime, as FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC square off in the UEFA Champions League final at the Stade de France in Paris. I can hardly contain myself. Actually, "can hardly" shouldn’t enter the equation. I simply lack a handle on my emotions and in the past few hours, I’ve run the gamut from elation to nervousness to arousal and anger (yes, I have felt the tingles!). I can’t make heads or tails of it but I doubt there’s any use in trying. I’ve spent 18 years as a conscious fan of the Mighty Arsenal (years where I was slobbering all over myself and eating pennies while living the contented, toddler life with my Arsenal pacifier don’t count) and I can’t think of a time greater than now. This is the biggest night in our club’s history and given everything written by journalists and Joe Blogger these last few days, I can’t offer anything that hasn’t already been said… except this — I’ll be at the match, living and dying with every strike of the ball; please pray that the riots are kept to a minimum, at the very least, until I can get back to the airport. Cheers!

  • Sorry Babe but I’ve got my money on Barca winning in the final minutes. Have a great time!!

  • Ronaldhino vs. Henry. It doesn’t get any better than that! I’m taking the last couple hours off from work to get home to see it.

  • Sorry about Arsenal. I thought you might’ve had them but for Lehmann getting carded and his replacement being pure bollocks.

  • You didn’t happen to have a red stripe going down the center of your face tonight, did you?

  • How on God’s green earth did you score those tickets.
Sorry about the Gunners, they played magnificently well for 10 men and they almost had the game in the bag then Wenger took out Fabregas for Flamini …my mates and I hung our heads. Putting an unestablished left back in the game meant more midfield space for Barca to play with and it cost him (never mess with a good scheme). Great game though
Hope Henry sticks with the Gunners cause those Barca players were awfully chatty with him before and after the game.

  • That’s awesome that you were able to get tickets for the game. I hope you took some pictures to post.
Since finals were last week and my internship doesn’t start till June, I (a Barca fan) got to watch the game. My brother, who is still in school and an Arsenal fan, had to wait and watch the tape when he got home. I was tempted to wait and watch it with him, but then I thought “Screw him, I’m not the one that had to go to school today.”

  • When Flamini came in for Fabregas it became clear that Wenger had lost the faith. But Lehmann’s shameful exit in the 18th minute was the true moment when it was all over. To think that we hung on for 60 minutes with the wretched Almunia in goal is still astonishing to me.

  • You have to wonder why Whinger puts Almunia on and not Poom who is a half decent keeper.
    Sorry can’t resist ;)
    Q. what goes peep-peep-peep-peep?
    A. Arsenal’s open top bus reversing back into it’s garage
