One-nil to the Mighty Arsenal! All Hail!

Madrid may be the wealthiest club in the world but the Croesus of Castille lacks the priceless talent that is Thierry Henry. The Frenchman scored a goal of the richest beauty and lead Arsenal to football history as they became the first British side to defeat Real Madrid at The Bernabeu. It’s only fair to say that the Spanish side was in less than proper form but injuries to key players and departures of senior leaders have crippled the Arsenal, leaving us long on youth and short on experience.

But quality was to be found in every area of the field, young and old alike. Fabregas was magic, Eboue was different class, Gilberto shut down Zidane while Flamini held off Beckham, and Henry was nothing short of dazzling. His goal was as stunning as it was significant… as painful as this season has been, it goes without saying that eclipsing Real in such fabulous form brilliantly demonstrates that youth is a superior alternative to investing in declining oldsters.

Though it would be foolhardy to draw too many conclusions from this one victory, I think it’s a relieving sign that the tide could soon shift for the Gunners and a return to glory lies ahead in coming seasons.

  • VERY impressive. I just watched a replay of it and though Madrid didn’t play well, as you mentioned, Arsenal was on top of it all. To think people were predicting a 3-4-5 goal victory for Madrid!

  • I can’t deny that Henry was magnificent but you’re fucking mad! Arsenal made NO history last night. That team is about as English as Taco sodding Bell! Cole is the only Englishman amongst them and he isn’t even fit.
    HAIL TO VILLA!!

  • Real can suck it. Getting shut out on their own turf is horrendous.
Sounds like the Gunners are following the Bombers lead – whose 2005 season was saved by Cano, Wang & Small. Personally, if I’m Aresenal, I’m begging for more Fabini, Fabregas & Eboye heroism and less Bergkamp’s theatrics. They should be promoting that full time now. That and appointing some of the club’s resident slappers to gobble Henry’s knob at his beck and call to ensure he doesn’t leave this summer.
Even so, big win for London’s finest.

  • i hate arsenal but i hate beckham more, so i was pullin for you guys. henry was completely sick out there. how many guys did he go through on that goal? 5?! i’m hopin for a replay on FSC so i can tape it.

  • William, I wouldn’t go so overboard on this, mate :) Now that Rothschild is finding a buyer for you lousy fobs, you’ll likely have a new foreign owner that will bring in a wave of FOREIGN talent! Is it really sitting well with you that the fate of your club ownership could lie in the hands of sodding ARSENAL fans? What a bloody pisser.

  • Henry isn’t leaving Arsenal for many years to come. They’ll make sure to pay him whatever he wants (they’re too smart not to) and that, coupled with the exciting possibilities in playing for a young, emerging squad, will be more than enough for the Frenchman in the end.

  • I hope you are right about the future at Highbury, Oliver.

  • If I’m not, mate, Arsenal is sunk! But since I’m for the Spurs, I hope he’s got a one way ticket out of London.

  • Geez, Oliver, that would be a good thing :) See, the thing is, if you support Villa you bash all the other teams for being foreign or overspending, but you secretly are jealous. I can’t speak for William, but I can only hope some big spender buys the club :)

  • Stuff it, William. You’ve no right to speak on The Arsenal when the Villans are right cunts that ought to be relegated.

  • haha Shiloh when don’t you think somebody’s a cunt?
But i agree with ya Oliver, Henry is probably safe with the Gunners. Arsenal aren’t one to drop big dollars but they’ll meet his demands. If they want to reclaim the Premiership and stop being embarrassed in the CL, they have no choice. I think the biggest thing for him is seeing that the club is heading in the right direction and that has taken some patience this season.

  • “Club heading in the right direction” is bollocks. You cunts took ONE at Bernabeu and now it’s as if the clouds have parted and the Almighty is announcing you’ll win fuck all. Real will DESTROY you at Highbury and the lot of you fucking tossers will be crying again and hating all the overpaid foreigners on your team.

  • Matt, we desperately need a big spender with an eye for talent that won’t go belly up with injury after the first tackle. But I’m surprised Rothschild hasn’t set up one of their “secret buyers” to take us up just to see Villa relegated.

  • I think i just counted four mentions of a word that if I even think it, women start comin out the walls to get pissed! Haha what the hell is goin on in here?

  • I think they get a bullshit free pass on it b/c they’re brits.

  • Women (the sane ones) usually only mind if they or another female is being called that. I think that (plus the fact that most american women couldn’t care less about soccer) is playing into this.

  • Shutup Flashers. In 100 years of soccer, Arsenal has sucked for a total of 8 months. Before you can start that return to glory talk, you either have to suck for 10 years or fire Wenger and replace him with Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham.

  • Women are full of shit. They bitch when any man uses the word but when they get in their little groups to hate on some random girl, that word is flying all over the place.
